'13' - El nuevo de Black Sabbath

BLACK SABBATH ‘13’ DUE OUT JUNE 2013

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND (January 13, 2013)--Today, the 13th of January 2013, rock legends BLACK SABBATH have announced the title of their new album, 13, which will be released this June (exact date TBA). The original BLACK SABBATH--OZZY OSBOURNE (vocals), TONY IOMMI (guitar) and GEEZER BUTLER (bass)--have recorded the album primarily in Los Angeles and were joined at the sessions by drummer Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine). Produced by Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy winner, two of those as Producer of the Year), the album will be released on Vertigo (worldwide) and Vertigo/Republic in the U.S. 13 marks the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees’ return to Vertigo, the band’s original label; it’s the group’s first studio album together since 1978’s Never Say Die! They have sold over 70 million albums together.

In advance of the album’s release, BLACK SABBATH will head to New Zealand, Australia and Japan for live performances (see below for tour dates). Additional tour plans will be revealed in the coming months.

Sí: había otros planes. Según ha revelado el productor Rick Rubin y confirmado el líder de la banda en la revista ‘Rolling Stone’, Tony Iommi, Black Sabbath planearon contar con un mito viviente de la batería, el rockero Ginger Baker.

Los planes para el nuevo disco, ’13′, primer disco de estudio con Ozzy Osbourne desde 1978, cuando la banda sacaba ‘Never Say Die’, pasaban por sortear con todo tipo de lujos la salida de Bill Ward. Pero cuando se lo planteó Rubin, Iommi, inmerso en la lucha contra el cáncer que padece, rechazó la propuesta del que será el productor del próximo disco.

Iommi también contó a ‘Rolling Stone’ que cuando Ward anunció su renuncia le extrañó, porque no le había comunicado esos planes con anterioridad, una vez anunciado el regreso de los 4 miembros originales.

Al parecer, Ozzy le dijo a Ward algo así como “tío, no te puedes ir diciendo ‘esto no me gusta’… deja el culo pegado y compartamos esta mierda… la vida de rockero bohemio está más que lejana ya”.

También, como es sabido, el elegido finalmente para llevar las baquetas ha sido el batería de Rage Against The Machine, Brad Wilk, y saldrá en ’13′, aunque Geezer Butler habría dicho recientemente ahora que no es segura esa denominación para el disco. En todo caso, el nuevo álbum saldrá en junio y contendrá temas titulados ‘End Of The Beginning’, ‘Age Of Reason’ y ‘God Is Dead’.

Ozzy también ha comentado que el disco tendrá un estilo de ‘blues satánico’ pero apunta sobre el tema titulado ‘God Is Dead’ que “Cuando comienza, está claro, Dios ha muerto… pero cuando termina, piensas ‘no creo que haya muerto’…”.

También leí que Rubin (obviamente) intentó hacerlos componer un disco que suene a la par de esa época, dice que se sentía mucho la influencia del jazz e hizo foco en eso
Pareciera que las bandas llaman a Rubin para sacar discos imitando su sonido de hace mil años.

segun Crosby, todo arranco fenomeno, pero despues se volvio un pelotudo y les decia que hacer, cuestion que despues lo echaron de la produccion

Specific Track Remarks:

End of the Beginning (8:07). Too long a track for an opener but otherwise very good. Very heavy. Ozzy’s vocals don’t evoke dragons and knights and the soaring evil of Dio…rather, they have a melodic but, unsettling quality to then. Not operatic bombast, but understated, melodic eeriness. But it works. This is not the uninspired songwriting of those two songs from the Reunion album — this is real songwriting with some good riffs from Iommi. A very good song.

God is Dead? (8:54). This song slays. Very cool riffing and a good melody line. The B section is evocative of the Holy in the Sky riff but it still works really well. This is an excellent song, worthy of standing with anything in the Ozzy catalog (thought it lacks the instant memorability of Iron Man or Paranoid).

Loner (5:06). Sounds a LOT like a heavy, modern-production version of NIB (I even sang “Oh yeah” after the appropriate riff). Lyrically and mood-wise it mixes in some Johnny Blade. It’s a good song, but not as good as the previous ones.

Zeitgeist (4:28). Mellow, and somewhat evocative of Planet Caravan. It’s fine, but I anticipate skipping this on CD.

Age of Reason (7:02). This song kills. My notes (again, scratched in there by keys) are unintelligible. But this one had people pretty fired up.

Live Forever (4:49). Has a Children of the Grave / Hole in the Sky Feel once again. A good song, if not as ambitious as some of the others.

Damaged Soul (7:43). Very heavy blues. Too bluesy for my tastes. Blues blues and more blues, and when you are done with the blues, it shoves another does of blues up your ass. This is overstated — it’s plenty heavy. It just is too (wait for it) bluesy for my tastes. Others enjoyed it more than me. Still, this is not a throwaway, just not one of my favorites.

Dear Father (7:06). A great song to finish with, again quite heavy with a lot of energy. The B section is the one featured in the video with Rubin telling Ozzy to try again (“…the victims of the sins you devise.”) The main section is beefier than that part. There is a recurrent tritone riff that is very evocative of the first notes played in the song Black Sabbath. It’s so evocative that one wonders if it’s purposeful…and the riffs appears again at the very end of the song…and then the song ends…with rain…and church bells. Very cool. Very cool indeed.

estan en copados y tocan varios temas del disco; hasta ahora, 2 del disco posta (contando God is Dead) y 2 bonus tracks

confio en que la version estudio de Loner, Ozzy suene mas inspirado; eso si, GRACIAS POR TANTO IOMMI

Me emboló el disco , pero es Sabbath puro, no suena forzado ni ahi para mi.
Creo que las bandas de los 70 no necesitan buena produccion hoy en dia, para que la necesitarian ???
